CNY at Chung Wah.

Yesterday night we attended a Chinese New Year dinner hosted by the Chung Wah Society. The event was nothing short of festive. The whole venue was decked out with red and gold decorations, shimmery lights and each guest received a novelty bag filled with coins and tiger stamps. 

The kids were all getting into the groove with the band playing in the background. Also the overhanging balloons were their added dance props. They had so much fun. It was a full-on party to usher in the Year of the Tiger.

Then it was time for the lion dance. A few of Chloe's schoolmates performed in the lion dance troupe. These youngsters are pretty good. Majority of them belong to the Chin clan which is one of the biggest and dominant Chinese family in the Darwin community. (Observe the names stated in the program booklet above.)

Above are little Aaron Chin and Ansari Fong in the foreground. Can't believe Ansari is practically a young man now considering we knew him when he was a wee newborn.

Then it was time for the long-awaited dinner. We started off with Sang-Fatt Choy dish, which is vegetarian. The name literally symbolises longevity and prosperity. If you notice, half of the fatt-choy was gone by the time this picture was taken. Obviously, some people just can't wait to fill their tummy - namely Uncle Peter :P
